Pictures of our awesome, if diminutive, Christmas tree. We probably won’t be sending out cards this year, but we hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season, and gets to spend as much time as possible with their favorite friends and family.

Our few pictures of Thanksgiving are online. We started the day lying around, as here with Ruth’s monster of a cat. Eventually we got around to cooking, and made praline pumpkin pie (recipe), pumpkin crumble (recipe; Ruth makes her own pumpkin butter, rather than using a jar), fried okra (recipe), and buttermilk biscuits (recipe).

Then we went to our friend Kristina’s apartment, and had dinner with a ton of cool folks. Kenny made a great turkey (seen above), and there was pomegranate sangria, and and a delicious time was had by all.

This post is for Adrianne and Jurvis, who think they have a problem with their kitten.

There’s still time to train Jack the Ripper. His teeth and claws aren’t that big yet. And he probably still thinks you kill a man by cutting across the wrists, like he sees on TV. You don’t really have to worry about your cat until he learns to cut along the veins.

Got back from New Orleans yesterday.

What a cool town.

We’ve got a sizable backlog of pictures to upload. Only getting to it now because I found a swell photo organizer/uploader for Linux called F-Spot. Previously, I used the “Gallery Remote” program which works with the web gallery on TBND. But a) it sucks and b) it breaks when I update Ubuntu, and hasn’t worked in months.

Anyway, here are exemplars for and links to three new galleries:

The LA Angles/Chicago White Sox baseball game we went to, way back on May 4th. Angels won. We got visors. Yay.

Walking on the beach in Corona Del Mar with Ruth’s brother Leon, who came to visit the weekend of May 26th.

Ruth finishing her first 5k run, on June 2nd. On one of the pictures you can see her crossing the finish line, along with her time: a totally impressive first-ever 5k time of 00:27:26.

DING! DING! DING! DING!

OK, Christ, I’m awake, but what the hell time is it?

Three AM. Awesome. Why am I awake, again?

DING! DING! DING! DING!

Adrianne asked a couple of days ago about whether people should be booking hotel rooms, or what. As I understand it, most (if not all) of the rooms in the homes of friends and family are spoken for. Also, on Saturday (the night before the wedding), I am planning to spend the night at the hotel, hopefully hanging out with anyone who is there. I’m looking forward to this, as it’ll give me more time to catch up with people I haven’t seen in a while. Ruth will spend that night at Ramona’s house with her bridesmaids.

We’ve learned that, in order to assure that you get one of the rooms we had set aside, you need to reserve your room by July 28th. I just tried to use their on-line reservation system, and it didn’t work for that weekend, so you probably need to call them and tell them you’re with the Barrett/Johnson party. Here are the phone numbers, taken from the website (which is linked on the “Ceremony” page):

Reservations: 800-396-5007
Phone: 423-753-3100

Also, we need ideas for the rest of us can get up to Saturday afternoon while most of the women are having their nails done. I’ll try to come up with something good, but anyone with a fun idea should pipe up.

The page where you can RSVP is up. Which is good news, because (most of) the invitations went out yesterday, and I really didn’t want them to arrive before people had a place to RSVP.
